Wow. This adventure with August and Zach was undeniably beautiful and amazing. From the boho wedding dress to the emotion and the breathtaking location, every piece of this was elopement-style adventure was perfect. As adventurous wedding photographers, we get super excited when our couples want to trek to the mountains. From the very moment I met August and Zach, I knew they were going to be a blast to work with. August wanted the best of both worlds when it came to their wedding. She wanted the adventurous and gorgeous mountains but she also wanted the traditional wedding day. So, we trekked to the mountains for an adventurous, elopement style first look two days before their wedding day.
We met around 6am and hiked up the mountain to catch the most beautiful sunrise as Zach turned around to see his bride for the first time. Arguably the most epic first look I’ve ever experienced. We wandered around the mountaintop just taking in the phenomenal views and amazing experience while getting super giddy for August and Zach to be married! At the end of this mountaintop adventure, they shared their vows with the sun beaming through the trees behind them and it was so romantic and magical.
Whether you’re eloping in the mountains or it’s just an adventure session, there are a lot of things to consider before choosing if it’s right for you.
If you’re eloping, there may be a permit required. For the Blue Ridge Parkway, some locations do require a permit while others do not. The easiest way to know if you need a permit is to be sure to hire adventurous wedding photographers who are familiar with the area and the requirements.
Some locations, such as this one, require a decent hike to reach them. This is important to consider for multiple reasons. If you don’t like to hike or aren’t willing to hike, eloping on a mountaintop on the Blue Ridge Parkway is probably not for you. If you’re all for a hike to get to the breathtaking views, let’s do it. Another facet of this is whether or not you are planning to have friends and family join you, especially parents or grandparents who may not be able to make the trek up a mountain. There are locations where the walk is much easier and your professional wedding photographers can give you that insight.
The last thing I want to talk about is the experience. When you’re on a mountaintop, you can almost guarantee there will be wind. If you are the type of person to want every hair in place, you might not want to adventure or elope on mountaintop! Also, it is very likely that the bottom of your dress will get dirty as we move around and adventure. If those are things that don’t bother you then let’s plan your adventure elopement!
